Centre News - Mid Year Update 2026

An update from Anna, our Centre Director - July 2026

We are just four days into Term Three and everyone has settled back into kindy quickly and beautifully.

This term is a special time of year, when the children are demonstrating confidence and growing maturity, relationships are strong, they are familiar with the environment and the resources that are available and ideas and projects can be rich and complex.

Rather than delve into what the children have been doing these past few days I will list some of the things the teachers have been busily working on in the background:

  • Professional Development from Kindy Uplift

  • Bus Tour on Yuggera Country

  • Understanding and Responding to Children’s Behaviour

  • Full day workshop on NZ curriculum and pedagogy approach, strongon natural, real world environments and wellbeing

  • The Power of storytelling with Aboriginal Perspectives, workshop

  • Two of our team to the TIPIAC Teaching Aboriginal Perspectives in the Australian Curriculum Conference

  • Reggio Amelia full day workshop – child-led, play-based learning approach

  • Eight Ways of Learning – PD and then embedding

  • Arranging for Yuggerapul teacher and horticulturalists from Black Cockatoo Educational Consulting to visit and advise about the creation of a Yarning Circle, native planting and beautifying the outdoor environment in a natural and culturally connected way.

  • Working with OT to organise an Information Evening for teachers and parents on the topics of Regulation and Toileting development in young children.

  • Organising a four hour practical workshop for our October pupil free day run by Gymnastics Qld about fundamental movement skills and early physical development.

  • Arranging PD relating to Down Syndrome and Auslan in preparation for children with additional needs enrolled next year

  • Planting new shade trees – native hibiscus, golden penda, lemon myrtle, sandpaper fig, children caring for

  • Our community sharing cabinet on the footpath has been a success so far with offerings of citrus and herbs from the community. The children have enjoyed painting kindness rocks and they have been quickly taken up by the community

  • Preparing for Campfire Day, running little fire safety sessions with children and baking Anzac biscuits and damper to share on the day

  • Preparing for Art Show, mounting artwork and planning our Group canvases

  • Reviewing our Philosophy inviting community input

  • We are well into the process of making offers for 2027, Michelle has been very busy with this and running tours

  • Updating our RAP via the Narragunnawali portal

  • Preparing our kindy teddy bears for their visits home with children starting later this term
