An update from Fiona, Pre-Kindy & After Kindy Care - September 2026
Finding connection in Pre-Kindy
As Term Three comes to an end, it is lovely to look back at how the children have grown. Term One was about settling into new routines, saying goodbye to parents and learning how to be part of a group. In Term Two, children began trying new skills: a bigger climb in the playground, cutting, threading or completing a harder puzzle. Some learned a friend’s name and began looking for them on arrival; others joined experiences they had previously preferred to watch.
Term Three has been about taking it all in. The children are participating more fully, playing comfortably with a wider circle of friends and trying harder challenges. We see growing confidence as they act, sing and dance in front of others, share their ideas with a group and stay with a task for longer. They are also becoming more resilient when plans change or an experience doesn’t go as expected.
Choosing photos for the Art Show slideshow gave us a chance to reflect on the past three terms. One word kept coming to mind: connection. We could see connections between children, their educators and the environment. This group has found ways to interact, engage and learn from one another, and strong friendships have formed. The After Kindy Care children have helped support and encourage relationships with the younger children too.
The children have immersed themselves in art and painting, built imaginative games together and connected with the outdoor environment. They are challenging themselves on the climbing equipment and showing growing interest in ball skills and gymnastic play.
Looking ahead to Term Four
At group times, the children are especially engaged when we talk about the world around our kindergarten. They share ideas for play and planning and are keen to learn more about the outdoor environment. New QR codes on signs beside some native plants have already prompted us to pause, investigate and read together.
In Term Four, we will continue building the children’s connection to the land. The warmer weather will give us opportunities to plant, care for and produce items for the community garden. The beetles, bugs and birds around Kindy will offer starting points for more learning, as the silkworms have already done through conversations about lifecycles.
Thank you to the families who helped with the Art Show and those who came to enjoy the children’s work. Seeing Kindy transformed and seeing the children’s joy and excitement as they shared their art, made it a special day for all of us.
