Our Centre

The Environment

This centre actively promotes conservation and encourages children and families to protect the environment. Native animals and insects are treated with care and respect and are allowed to remain free while appropriate observation for children’s information is made.

The planting of trees and shrubs indigenous to this particular area is carried out on a regular basis to give effective shade and to provide habitat for birds and other wildlife. Hygienic composting of lawn clippings and fruit waste is practised. Care of the environment is fostered among children and adults.

Our centre is very proud of our beautiful environment.

Our Philosophy

At Chapel Hill Community Kindergarten we believe children learn best when:

  • They are recognized as competent and capable. With freedom to explore they learn to construct their own understandings of the world through discovery and problem-solving.
  • They are intrinsically motivated, to explore their own interests and to make their own discoveries rather than through direction from adults.
  • They are active participants in the learning process, using their senses in “hands-on’’ experiences.
  • Their individual development, needs, interests and learning styles are recognised and catered for to maximise their potential learning.
  • All areas of development – social, emotional, linguistic, physical and intellectual – are seen as integrated and interdependent.
  • Creativity is fostered so they can learn to think in new and different ways, testing their ideas and implementing them.
  • The environment is conducive to learning, providing a place that feels happy, friendly, safe and secure.

Who is our Governing Body?

The Central Governing Body (CGB) oversees  the distribution of government funding to kindergartens and childcare centres.
Chapel Hill Community Kindergarten has elected the Creche and Kindergarten Association of Queensland (C&K) as it CGB.

There are various levels of membership with C&K and our centre is an affiliate of C&K.
Affiliation means that our Centre receives its funding via C&K, uses the C&K curriculum “Building Waterfalls” and abides by the C&K policies and standards.

C&K has been operating since 1907 and their high standards in kindergarten education are well recognised.
The centre is run by the management committee made up of elected members from the parents of children attending the kindergarten.

We are a Government Approved Kindergarten

This means Chapel Hill Community Kindergarten is an ‘Approved Kindergarten Program Provider’ (KPP) as outlined and assessed by the Queensland Government, Office for Early Childhood Education and Care. The Kindy Tick alerts and assures parents that the kindy program provided is delivered by qualified teachers and that the centre and program provided meet the eligibility criteria of providing a quality education as set out by the Queensland Government.

At Chapel Hill Kindy we operate under the National Quality Framework for Early Childhood Education and Care. For further information on the National Quality Framework click here.
